I have to write an essay on how online chat rooms effect the teens of these days.What are some negative affects aside from pedophiles on today’s teens by using online chat rooms/dating services?

Huge time waster! Plus many teens today find it difficult to actually communicate on a normal level in person because they are so used to using chatrooms/texting/ims as a crutch.

Well a lot of pointless cyber fights happen in online chat rooms. Random people that you don’t know will start bashing on you for no reason. For example they’ll bash on your appearance even if you don’t even have a picture of yourself online. Also online topics can get a lot more out of control. People can joke about killing people or people getting killed by cancer or herpes a lot freer online, even though they would never say that kind of thing in public. I think dating services online are pretty stupid. Because it’s like your to lazy to find real love by yourself, I wouldn’t trust a machine to find my soul mate for me. Even though I love the internet.
Addictions, lowered self esteem.
I say the self esteem one, because a lot of people become more cocky on the internet becaues nobody can really say anything to them back, or nkow who they are. So some people may go in looking for friends, or whatever… and then just end up getting made fun of. I saw it a lot when I used to go on them.
Also, people get addicted to those things and think that their friends on there are better friends then their real life ones, and spend time online with them instead of going out with their real friends. So, it may also become an addiction.
Dating services, chances of rape. Also, fake pictures…. fake people. you know.
