Can I become a Substance Abuse Counselor in Virginia without having a bachelors degree? What should my educational path look like if I’m trying to get into this type of counseling??

I do not think you can become a Substance Abuse Counselor in Virginia without having a bachelors degree. I have found the requiremnts to get to where you want to be and hope you find this helpful!

Virginia substance abuse counselor application
Transcripts

Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC)
1.Obtain a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Complete 400 hours of training, seminars, courses and hands-on experience. Additional instruction is required for substance abuse research and group counseling.

2.Complete the substance abuse counselor examination and work under the supervision of a credentialed substance abuse counselor. Submit credentials to the certification board if certified in another state or jurisdiction. The examination and supervisory requirements are waived. Candidates who do not have prior substance abuse counseling experience or credentials from another jurisdiction must take the CSAC exam and complete the supervised internship requirements.

3.Demonstrate competency through supervised counseling sessions with substance abusers. The total number of hours required is 2,000. This didactic training must be performed under the supervision of a licensed and credentialed counselor in the state of Virginia. Submit the completed application and supervisory internship form to the certification board.

    There’s no such thing as a Former Alcoholic or addict. Though he referred
    to himself as a “drug abuser” and not an addict, he did say he was a former
    alcoholic so I am inclined to believe he was addicted to drugs as well.
    Cross addiction or being addicted to multiple substances, is a version of
    drug addiction. Alcoholism and Drug Addicttion are the same thing. Alcohol
    is a drug.

    speaker, and I don’t think she fully understands her own field, just the
    general and basic knowledge one can obtain from an intro to psych course
