Homeless in New Haven, CT: What Should You Do?

Question by mr.verycurious: Homeless in New Haven, CT: what should you do?
FYI: this is a **hypothetical** question.

Say you’re a homeless person in New Haven, Connecticut. And you really want a place to spend the night, a nice meal, a change of clean clothes, and then help finding a job.

You DON’T have access to a computer or the internet. You DON’T have access to a phone, not even a pay phone. And you DON’T know where any cops or police stations are.

Where can you go to get what you want?

Please provide the name, address, and hours of operation in your answer.

Remember, no website links or phone numbers please!!!!!

Thanks!

I have been homeless in Seattle.
Seattle a somewhat homeless friendly city.
But homeless ANYPLACE is not fun.
Usually have to sleep on mats on the floor and hit the streets at 0500.
Some places have showers…some don’t.

but
from my experience….when homelessness is looming….rent a small storage space.
You can’t shlep your worldly belongings around with you all day.

Churches might have something going on.
Don’t even mess with Salvation Army rehab….
they will put you to work in warehouse for 40 hours a week even if you have active TB and are suffering drug withdrawal…
they will pay you 7 bucks a week for efforts.
They will send you over to thrift store for used suit to wear so they can parade you in front of Chamber of Commerce at dinner event.

Thinking of throwing somebody out into the streets?
Are they drinking/drugging?
Hard times might be best thing.
Drinking on sofa and drinking in alley two different things.

Good luck

note: I included phone numbers because pay as you go trac phones not that expensive and cell phone is absolutely ESSENTIAL…..
even homeless here in Seattle have cell phones…
they are not a luxury…they are a NECESSITY

  • Cheryl A says:

All public libraries have computers with internet access, so if our hypothetical homeless person can get him/herself to the places you’re asking us to list, he/she could get over to the library. Many of the homeless people here in Milwaukee spend their days at the library, reading, surfing the net, napping, staying out of the cold. I even ran into a woman in the restroom one day who was changing her clothes and giving herself a sponge bath!
