Do You Believe We Should Decriminalize All Drug Use the Way Portugal Does?

Question by No Chance Without Thor: Do you believe we should decriminalize all drug use the way Portugal does?
Portugal decriminalized all drug use and they have now effectively cut all drug addiction in half and no longer sends drug users to prison. Instead, drug abuse is treated like the health problem that it actually is.

I wish America would do this, but we have too many cartel lobbyists to make sure we don’t do something that makes sense.

Sure.

But you realize we can’t do that in the US because we have to protect everyone from themselves.

Sure , and Portugal is such a rich country. Think for a minute. decriminalized drugs and addiction is cut in half. Really, how did you hatch that one?

  • LiberalsRNutz says:

All? No. But I do think that we need to stop targeting pot smokers as it is non-productive and costs too much for too little return. One in six criminals in our prison system are there for pot related charges. Not to mention the fact that pot smokers are probably the least violent people out there. We need to treat pot the same way we do alcohol.

    Yes .

  • DR.R.Luxemburg says:

Yes, because the drug war is a total failure just like Prohibition. The many years of the Drug War have not made a dent in the amount of drug use.
It’s expensive, profitable to the dealers and their political allies also those who profit by drugs like the police, the military, the weapons industry, The Criminal Injustice system, Big Pharma, the Medical Lobby, and the Drug Treatment industry. Decriminalization would ameliorate the amount of crime that is necessary to obtain drugs, and the government could even collect taxes on the dispensaries
In addition Heroin, Marijuana,LSD have contributed to both Medical and Psychiatric treatment. The production of hemp, which is now illegal would also contribute to a more effective economy

    Hope this helps
