Does It Make More Sense to Put CHEMICALLY ADDICTED People in PRISON for POSSESSION or in REHAB?

Question by Bush is not conservative: Does it make more sense to put CHEMICALLY ADDICTED people in PRISON for POSSESSION or in REHAB?
Addiction is an illness. Narcotics abuse is an illness. Logically, the purchasing, possession and abuse of a drug by an addict is as much of a health concern as it is a legal one.

Narcotics abuse is undoubtedly a more emotionally complicated crime than other nonviolent offenses such as theft and vandalism, but early attempts to curb abuse lacked the necessary breadth to get addicts clean. Incarceration is not an effective method of freeing drug users from the substances on which they depend.

Does Anyone Know of a State Funded Long Term Drug Rehab in NC?

Question by : Does anyone know of a state funded long term drug rehab in NC?
I have been trying to find a long term state funded rehab for my son in NC. I only know of one and they will not take someone with an outstanding court date. My son is in detox right now and trying to get clean and I’m scared if he don’t go to a long term program he will end up getting right back where he shouldn’t be (on drugs)! Does anyone know of a state funded long term drug rehab in NC? Has anyone heard of R.J. Blackley ADATC in Butner NC? Just wondering if that was a good place to go! Need help!!!

In Need of a Inpatient/outpatient Drug Treatment Program in West Virginia.?

Question by lil mama: In need of a inpatient/outpatient drug treatment program in West Virginia.?
My friend has been on and off drugs for yrs., finally he has asked for help, and I’d like to do what I can for him. The tricky part is… he is currently incarcerated, due to get out May 18th, he’d like to go straight to a treatment facility and not back out on the streets. However all the places I have called so far say that he needs to be refered to a 28 day facility, the have that facility refer him to a 90 day. There are only 3 28 day facilities in W.V. and they all have a 6-8 week waiting list. To top it off they prob. wont tk. him because he wont have any drugs in his system. The only other option is to try and find a outpatient facility and if they feel he needs it, they can try to refer him to inpatient. There are 2 outpatient facilites in the area and they want to prescribe other drugs to suppress the cravings………..I’ve discussed this with him and this would be a last option, he has no drugs in his system now and the goal is to keep it that way. Please if anyone has any other suggestions, options, or has been threw this before , I’d like to hear it…..Please no smarta** comments though, unless you’ve been there don’t judge.

you simply can’t make someone get help for this if they don’t think they have a problem, or if they know they have a problem & don’t want help.
you can be supportive, but that’s about it.
until he/she is ready any help (medical, rehab, psych etc) will simply be a waste of time & money.
my husband had a prescription & alcohol problem & it took him a few yrs to be able to admit that it was time to fix it. (he’s now sober 5+ yrs).
good luck
