Can a Teacher Be Fired for Asking a Student Where or How to Purchase Cocaine?

Question by mean_ugly_chick: Can a teacher be fired for asking a student where or how to purchase cocaine?
A teacher I work with checked herself into a drug treatment center to get help for cocaine addiction. While she was out on a medical leave, a student stepped forward and admitted that the teacher came to her and asked if she knew where or how she could get her hands on some cocaine. Unfortunately, I know this to be true because the teacher herself told me about her cocaine problem and that she had solicited drugs from that student. From what I am told, it is illegal to fire a person for having a substance abuse problem if they seek help on their own. However, I would like to know if asking a student changes that. I like this co-worker and I am glad she is seeking help, but I am very upset with her for involving a student. Furthermore, I am upset that our school and the teachers’ union are protecting her. Can the union keep her from getting fired?

Am I Violating Yahoo Community Guidelines With This Answer on Disease?

Question by berrybrigerre_1: Am I Violating Yahoo Community Guidelines With This Answer on Disease?
A woman asked a question about stage 2 cancer. She pleaded for help as she asked multiple questions in her additional details about how to address the problem. Can you tell me if my response was deserving of “report abuse” by a Yahoo user other than the woman. If I am violating guidelines in any way, then I gladly appreciate an eye opener. Here is the response below: (skim if you like, but point out any violations of Yahoo).

When Will They Start Mandatory Drug Testing for Women Getting Child Support?

Question by Stupid Grandpa Tricks: When will they start mandatory drug testing for Women getting Child Support?
So sick of all the stories of how women ( and some men ) who get really good child support payments that pay ALL their bills and extras are always addicted to drugs. I even know a man in Florida who is drug addicted and the system is his co-dependent. I say this because the courts awarded him the kid and the ex pays BIG child support thus allowing him to not work and pursue his full time drug addiction. We see this with movie stars all the time. We just don’t here about it as much with family court being a closed court and child support is not considered a tax payer funded system ( although it really is if you think about it) who pays judges and child support agencies-? Taxpayers.

Is Writing About Depression and Substance Abuse on a College Application Essay a Bad Idea?

Question by Lucy: Is writing about depression and substance abuse on a college application essay a bad idea?
I posted this question earlier, but was hoping to get a little more feedback.

I am applying to the University of Maryland: College Park and I REALLY need an amazing essay. I consider myself to be a strong writer, but I’m struggling with a topic. Here is the prompt:

Please describe your past academic experiences and your reasons for wishing to enroll to Maryland at this point in your academic career. Students who have been out of school for several years, or who have a personal circumstance that affected performance, may wish to address that situation in their essay. Your essay should be no more than 300 words.
